I have heard many people cite claims just like this one and myparents also hold similar beliefs. However, it is important to notethat weather is not climate. Climate is the long-term averageweather conditions in an area (Trujillo & Thurman, 2018). Ittakes all of the past weather conditions and finds an average usingthat data. This is why we may have a warming climate even if itsnows in the winter. This is important because weather varieshighly among different areas across the globe and so does climate. Our oceans play a drastic role in these processes.
For example, water has the innate ability to absorb heat. Thismakes areas that are closer to the ocean experience similartemperatures almost all year round. However, places far from theocean will have much more drastic temperature changes (Trujillo& Thurman, 2018). This leads to the development of thatspecific area’s climate pattern. It is possible to have a warmingclimate around the globe even if a single area happens to beexperiencing snow. Seasonal changes will still affect theselocations. If it typically snows in the winter then it willprobably still snow until the warming climate becomes drasticenough to stop the snow from coming.
It is important to note that the warming client isn’t necessarilyan extreme change. It typically goes up a fraction of a degreeevery decade, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t begin to see itseffects. If the global world climate goes up a single degree everythirty years then it still won’t be very long before this impactbegins to affect our daily lives. It’s an issue that needs to bestopped early.
