DITC 8940 Week 3 Objectives

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: Describe the basic concepts and methods used in the alignment of a DNA sequence to an organism’s genome.

Describe the methods used to identify and characterize orthologous genes in one species.

Identify common misalignments among different species’ genomes.

Demonstrate the ability to use computational tools for analyzing gene alignments. Prerequisites: None Notes: Prerequisite course for DITC 8950 and DITC 896

DITC 8940 Week 3 Pre-requisites

This course will cover statistical methods for analyzing and comparing biological data. The first half of the course focuses on descriptive statistics, including measures of central tendency, measures of variation, and confidence intervals. The second half focuses on inferential statistics, including ANOVA (analysis of variance) and regression. In addition to the 4 credits required for this class, students are expected to complete two additional assignments: a research paper and a final exam. http://www.colorado.edu/humanities/ics/
