This is a seminar course in which students work in groups to plan and perform psychological tests, collect data, and interpret the results. Students will be introduced to basic methods of psychological assessment including test construction and interpretation as well as the measurement of mental health. The class will explore topics such as: the evaluation of persons with psychiatric disorders, child and adolescent assessment, neuropsychological assessment, personality assessment, psychological assessment of older adults, and an introduction to psychological testing for counseling purposes

Describe the objectives of psychological assessment and their relationship to the theory and practice of assessment. 1. The field of assessment is an evolving and dynamic one which includes the following areas: clinical, educational, industrial, forensic, medical, business, organizational, social and other areas. This course will provide an overview of psychological assessment and how it is used in different settings. It will also highlight relevant theories of measurement including those of validity and reliability along with the use of research methodology as a basis for interpretation.

The purpose of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to use psychological assessment instruments and interpret results. Students will develop a sound theoretical understanding of the history, nature and uses of psychological assessment instruments. They will apply these skills in determining appropriate methods of assessing individuals and groups for developmental, diagnostic, and clinical purposes.
